Goal: To enjoy
This is what I thought this morning when started running. I've thought many times about Thomas's post and that helped me to remember that nothing is happening if I run the marathon or not. This is something that I want, not that I have to. Running is not an obligation, is a great source of enjoyment in my life.
I wanted my enjoyment back and I found it.
A very important thing to accomplishing this was not to focus at all on pace. Go with RPE and avoided to watch Garmin as less as possible. It is a tool an sometimes it rules my runs and don't let me get my main goal, which is enjoying! I know that will drive me to the next points which are consistency and all the rest.
So, this day I don't know how mental it was, but I could enjoy and felt great. No pain appeared and could run with damped air. Pace and time were good. Completed 9.5 miles. Happy, happy.
Thanks for your advises. I am listening to them and will apply them. I will go for 12 on Friday:)

What a great post Hilda! It's so easy to forget that this is something we do for enjoyment. Thanks for reminding me!
I love the Garmin but sometimes it does make you focus too much on pace. I think it's great to focus on enjoying the running; you're right everything else will follow.
Yes, Hilda don't lose sight of the enjoyment of it all. Glad you had a great run.
Such good news to read about how you are enjoying running and not worrying about the pace! It's a great reminder to all of us to just get out there and enjoy it. Woo hoo - not long to go now. How exciting.
Great minds think alike Hilda!
Garmin is a great tool but not the reason we run.
If we aren't enjoying our running then just how long can we continue?
If we are enjoying it then what else matters?
Oh yes, very good. Enjoy the run, and forget about pace, that's excellent. Just what you needed.
I liked your "I want to do it but don't have to". Very sound. I am only learning to remember it often...obsessions are not healthy, passions are. Self-therapy I am practicing:)
Watch Garmin less??? What else would I have to look at??
yes forget about the pace..good call.
Great attitude Hilda! It is EASY to get caught up in watching your Garmin and then changing your run because Garmin says your not going fast enough. As long as you use it as a tool and not as the FOCUS of your run, it will benefit you. Have a great run on Friday!!
Great post, your philosophy is wise and the Garmin is my trouble. I live in a city and often it is blind. I can enjoy it only if I run in open country far from the buildings.
Thanks for the post Hilda! I have finally gotten to the point where I can wear my garmin and not look at it for the entire work out. I simply use it for post run commentary. Glad to hear you're getting your true sense of running back. You live and run in such a beautiful place. It must be nice to just look up and take it all in and not worry about your pace. You are, after all, just enjoying the act of running.
The runs I enjoy the most are where I leave my stopwatch at home and just run how I feel. It's probably better that I never bought a Garmin.
